bookingPeak Season (Oct-Mar): Pleasant weather but massive crowds at all major sites. Book everything in advance.

Dress modestly, especially when visiting villages or local markets. Light cotton clothing is suitable for most of the year. For forest treks, wear sturdy shoes, long trousers, and full-sleeved shirts to protect against insects and scratches.
ATMs are available in Sonua town, but they might not always be functional or stocked. Carry sufficient cash for daily expenses. UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is widely accepted at larger shops. Currency exchange facilities are not available in Sonua; exchange money in Ranchi or Jamshedpur. Tipping is not mandatory but appreciated for good service.
Drink only bottled water or filtered water. Avoid street food that looks unhygienic. Carry basic first-aid supplies, including insect repellent. There are small clinics in Sonua, but for serious medical emergencies, you will need to travel to Chaibasa or Ranchi. Consult your doctor about necessary vaccinations before travel.
Local SIM cards (Airtel, Jio, Vodafone Idea) are available, but network coverage can be patchy, especially in forest areas. Wi-Fi is rare outside of a few guesthouses in nearby larger towns. Useful apps include Google Maps for navigation and a translation app for local languages (Ho, Odia, Hindi).
Tipping expectations differ - More expected in metropolitan areas and tourist states like Goa; less customary in smaller towns and conservative states.
