Pro Tip: Peak vs Off-Peak

Peak Season (Oct-Mar): Pleasant weather but massive crowds at all major sites. Book everything in advance.

Shoulder Season (Apr-May, Sep): Best balance - decent weather, moderate crowds, better prices.

Off-Peak (Jun-Aug): Monsoon means empty attractions (except hill stations). Kerala backwaters are magical in rain!

What To Wear

Dress modestly, especially when visiting temples. Shoulders and knees should be covered. Light, breathable cotton clothing is best for the climate. Casual wear is acceptable for general town exploration.

payments

Money

ATMs are available from major banks like SBI, HDFC, ICICI. UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is widely accepted at shops and eateries. Currency exchange facilities are limited; exchange money in major cities. Tipping is not mandatory but appreciated for good service (rupees 50-100).

health_and_safety

Health

Drink only bottled water or filtered water. Carry basic medications for fever, pain, and stomach issues. Consult your doctor about vaccinations before travel. Basic medical facilities are available, but for serious emergencies, head to Vijayawada or Rajahmundry.

sim_card

Communication

Major Indian SIM cards (Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea) work well. Wi-Fi is available in better hotels. Useful apps include Google Maps for navigation and UPI apps for payments. Telugu is the local language; Hindi and basic English are understood by many.
