seasonPeak Season (Oct-Mar): Pleasant weather but massive crowds at all major sites. Book everything in advance.
Shoulder Season (Apr-May, Sep): Best balance - decent weather, moderate crowds, better prices.
Off-Peak (Jun-Aug): Monsoon means empty attractions (except hill stations). Kerala backwaters are magical in rain!
Dress modestly, especially when visiting temples or interacting with locals. Loose-fitting cotton clothes are best for comfort in the climate. Avoid revealing attire. Carry a light shawl or scarf for temple visits.
ATMs are scarce in Vidyapati village. The nearest ATMs are in Madhubani town (25km). Carry enough cash for daily expenses. UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is widely accepted in India, but not all small vendors in a village might use it. Currency exchange is not available locally. Tipping is not mandatory but appreciated for good service.
Drink only bottled water or filtered water. Avoid street food that looks unhygienic. Carry basic medications for fever, pain, and stomach issues. Vaccinations for Hepatitis A and Typhoid are recommended. Nearest primary health center is in Bisfi, for serious issues, go to Madhubani or Darbhanga hospitals.
Indian SIM cards (Airtel, Jio, Vodafone Idea) offer good coverage in most areas, but network might be patchy in remote village parts. Wi-Fi is generally not available in Vidyapati. Useful apps include Google Maps for navigation and translation apps. Hindi and Maithili are the primary languages; English is understood by very few.
Languages change every few hundred kilometers - You might master basic Hindi in Rajasthan, only to find it nearly useless in Tamil Nadu where Tamil dominates completely.
