Tirupati is a major pilgrimage city in Andhra Pradesh, famous for the Sri Venkateswara Temple on Tirumala hills.
The best time to visit Tirupati is from October to February. The weather is pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 18-28 degrees C, making it comfortable for temple visits and walking.
You should book Special Entry Darshan tickets online through the official TTD website (tirupatibalaji.ap.gov.in) well in advance. Free Sarva Darshan is also available but involves very long queues.
Men must wear dhoti or pyjama with an upper cloth. Women must wear a saree or churidar with a dupatta. Western attire like jeans, shorts, or T-shirts are not allowed inside the main temple.
Tirupati is generally safe, especially around the temple areas which are well-policed. However, solo female travelers should exercise caution, avoid isolated areas at night, and dress modestly.
You must try the famous Tirupati Laddu, Pulihora (tamarind rice), Pongal, and traditional Andhra Thali. Vada and Mysore Bonda are popular snacks available at local eateries.
A low budget trip can cost around rupees 1500 per day, a mid-range trip rupees 3500, and a high-end trip rupees 7000 or more, excluding major travel to and from Tirupati.
No, electronic gadgets including mobile phones and cameras are strictly prohibited inside the Sri Venkateswara Temple complex. You must deposit them at designated locker facilities before entering.
If time is short, prioritize Sri Venkateswara Temple (Tirumala) and Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple (Tiruchanur). You can skip smaller temples or natural attractions like Akasa Ganga if not interested in bathing.
