For temple visits, conservative attire is mandatory. Men should wear trousers or dhotis and remove shirts before entering the inner sanctum. Women should wear sarees, salwar kameez, or other modest clothing covering shoulders and knees. Outside the temple, light cotton clothing is suitable due to the warm climate.
ATMs are available in Sucheendram and Nagercoil. UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is widely accepted at most shops and eateries. Credit/debit cards are accepted at larger hotels and some restaurants in Nagercoil/Kanyakumari, but cash is preferred for smaller transactions. Tipping is not mandatory but appreciated for good service (rupees 50-100 at restaurants, rupees 20-50 for porters).
Drink only bottled water. Avoid street food that looks unhygienic. Carry basic medications for fever, pain, and stomach issues. Consult your doctor about vaccinations for Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and Tetanus before travel. The nearest hospitals are in Nagercoil (7 km).
Local SIM cards (Airtel, Jio, Vodafone Idea) are available at shops in Nagercoil with ID proof. Wi-Fi is limited to larger hotels in Nagercoil or Kanyakumari. Useful apps include Google Maps for navigation and UPI apps for payments. Tamil is the local language; basic English is understood by many, especially in tourist-related services.
