Rajmahal, a small historic town in West Bengal, offers a glimpse into Mughal-era grandeur.
The best time to visit Rajmahal is from October to February, when the weather is pleasant and suitable for sightseeing.
You can reach Rajmahal by train to Farakka Barrage (25km) or Malda Town (70km), then by local bus or taxi. By road, it is 370km from Kolkata via NH12.
Most of the historical ruins in Rajmahal, such as Jami Masjid and Akbari Masjid, do not have an entry fee and are free to visit.
Rajmahal is generally safe, but solo female travelers should exercise caution, especially after dark. Stick to well-lit, populated areas and inform someone of your itinerary.
Bengali is the primary language. Hindi is also understood by many, and some locals in the tourism sector may speak basic English.
If you have limited time, you can skip the smaller, less prominent ruins like the Tomb of Maina-Bibi. Focus on the Jami Masjid and Akbari Masjid for the main historical experience.
A low budget would be around rupees 1200 per day, mid-range rupees 2800, and high-end rupees 5500. This excludes major transport costs to reach Rajmahal.
You can get around Rajmahal using auto-rickshaws for short distances, cycle-rickshaws for very short trips, or by walking between nearby attractions.
