New Alipore is an upscale residential suburb located in South Kolkata, West Bengal.
The best time to visit New Alipore and Kolkata is from October to February. The weather is pleasant, dry, and ideal for sightseeing.
From Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU), you can take a prepaid taxi (rupees 400-600), an app-based cab (Ola/Uber, rupees 350-550), or an AC airport bus (rupees 100-150). The journey takes 40-70 minutes.
The Alipore Zoological Garden charges rupees 30 for all visitors. The National Library of India is free. Other major attractions in Kolkata like Victoria Memorial and Indian Museum have separate fees for Indians and foreigners.
New Alipore is a relatively safe, upscale residential area. However, general precautions apply: be aware of pickpockets in crowded places and avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas at night. Use reputable transport options.
Bengali is the primary local language. Hindi and English are also widely understood, especially by people in service industries and younger generations.
New Alipore itself is residential. If you have limited time, skip extensive exploration of its residential streets. Focus on the nearby Alipore Zoo and National Library, then head to central Kolkata attractions.
A low budget would be around rupees 1500 per day, a mid-range budget around rupees 3500, and a high budget around rupees 7000 or more. This includes accommodation, food, and local transport.
You can use auto-rickshaws for short distances, app-based cabs (Ola/Uber) for comfort and longer trips, and the Kolkata Metro for fast travel to other parts of the city. Buses are also available for budget travel.
