Kodachadri is a mountain peak in the Western Ghats of Karnataka, India. It forms a picturesque backdrop to the famous Kollur Mookambika Temple and is known for its lush green landscapes and challenging trekking trails.
Kodachadri offers a unique blend of natural beauty and spiritual significance. The main draw is the trek to the peak, offering stunning views, especially at sunset. However, the roads leading to the base are rough, and accommodation options are limited. If you seek solitude and adventure, Kodachadri is worth the effort, but be prepared for basic facilities.
Reaching Kodachadri involves travel to Kollur or nearby villages followed by a jeep ride or trek. Allow at least two days to fully experience the region, including the trek and visit to the Mookambika Temple. The trek itself can take a full day.
October to February
15-25 degrees C
The weather is pleasant and dry, making it ideal for trekking. Clear skies offer the best views.
Why Visit:
This is the best time for trekking, as the trails are less slippery and the weather is cool. The sunset views from the peak are most spectacular during these months. The post-monsoon greenery is also at its peak.
Tip: Expect moderate crowds, especially on weekends. Book accommodation and jeep rides in advance.
March to May
25-35 degrees C
The weather is hot and humid, making trekking more challenging. Occasional pre-monsoon showers may occur.
Why Visit:
The landscape is still green from the previous months, and the crowds are thinner. However, the heat can be a significant deterrent for trekking.
Tip: Carry plenty of water and wear appropriate clothing to protect yourself from the sun.
June to September
20-30 degrees C
Heavy rainfall during the monsoon season makes trekking dangerous. Landslides are common, and visibility is poor.
Why Avoid:
Avoid visiting during this period due to the treacherous conditions. The trails become extremely slippery and difficult to navigate.
Note: Some routes may be completely closed during the peak monsoon months. Kollur Temple remains open, but access to Kodachadri is severely restricted.
