Kaverippattinam is known as an ancient Chola port city, mentioned in the Tamil epic Silappathikaram. It is a site of archaeological importance and cultural heritage.
One to two days are sufficient to explore the main attractions in Kaverippattinam, including the Art Gallery, beach, and archaeological sites.
Entry fees are generally low. For example, Silappathikaram Art Gallery costs rupees 10 (Indians) and rupees 100 (foreigners). Many archaeological sites and temples are free.
