Kanchipuram is generally safe. Exercise usual precautions: avoid walking alone in isolated areas at night, be aware of your surroundings, and do not engage with aggressive touts.
Tamil is the primary local language. English is understood in tourist areas, hotels, and by some shopkeepers.
A mid-range budget would be around rupees 3500 per day, covering decent accommodation, food, and local transport. A low budget can be around rupees 1500.
You should dress modestly, covering your shoulders and knees. It is customary to remove your footwear before entering temple premises.
