Dhubri is a quiet river town in western Assam, located on the banks of the Brahmaputra river.
The best time to visit Dhubri is from October to February. The weather is pleasant and cool, ideal for sightseeing and river activities.
You can reach Dhubri by air via Guwahati Airport (GAU), then by bus or taxi. Dhubri has a railway station (DBB) with connections to Guwahati. Buses also connect Dhubri to major cities like Guwahati and Siliguri.
Most religious sites like Gurudwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, Mahamaya Dham, and Panchpeer Dargah have free admission. Chilarai Palace ruins also have no entry fee.
Dhubri is generally safe for solo travelers. Exercise common precautions like avoiding isolated areas at night and being aware of your surroundings in crowded markets.
You must try Masor Tenga (sour fish curry), Aloo Pitika (mashed potato), Khar (alkaline dish), and local Pitha (rice cakes). Fresh river fish preparations are also highly recommended.
Assamese and Bengali are the primary languages spoken. Hindi is widely understood, and some people, especially in hotels and tourist-related services, can speak basic English.
You can skip the Chilarai Palace ruins if you expect a grand, well-preserved monument. It is mostly foundations and overgrown structures.
A low budget for Dhubri is around rupees 1200 per day, a mid-range budget is rupees 2500, and a high budget is rupees 4500 or more, excluding major travel costs.
