Chittoor is a border city in Andhra Pradesh, known for its ancient temples, historical forts, and agricultural landscape.
The best time to visit Chittoor is from October to February when the weather is pleasant and dry, with temperatures ranging from 18-28 degrees C.
You can reach Chittoor by air via Tirupati (70km), Chennai (150km), or Bengaluru (190km) airports. Chittoor has its own railway station (CTO) and a central bus station with good connectivity.
Most temples like Kanipakam Vinayaka Temple have free general admission, with special darshan tickets costing rupees 100-250. Gurramkonda Fort and Kalyani Dam have free entry. Sripuram Golden Temple also has free general entry.
Chittoor is generally safe for tourists. Exercise caution in crowded areas and avoid walking alone in dimly lit places at night. Be aware of touts near major temples.
If you dislike crowds, you might consider skipping Kanipakam or Sripuram on weekends or major festival days. If you expect well-preserved historical sites, Gurramkonda Fort might disappoint as it is mostly ruins.
Telugu is the primary language spoken in Chittoor. Hindi and English are also understood, especially in tourist-frequented areas and by younger generations.
A low budget would be around rupees 1500 per day, a mid-range budget around rupees 3000, and a high budget around rupees 6000, excluding major shopping or luxury stays.
Auto-rickshaws are the most common mode of transport for short distances. Local buses are available for longer routes to nearby attractions. Always negotiate auto fares before starting your journey.
